Bernie Lombardi serves as a Program Associate for the College Pathways Initiative (CPI), assisting in creating and overseeing the implementation of CPI’s college readiness curriculum. CPI’s goal is to support Newark students through three critical developmental phases: high school graduation, the transition to college, and college completion.Bernie also teaches courses in African American and African Studies at Rutgers University, Newark.
Past work experience includes a Graduate Assistantship for the Newest Americans Project at Rutgers and teaching eleventh and twelfth grade English in Namibia and China. His scholarly articles and reviews have been published in Research in African Literatures, The Black Scholar, College Literature, and The Journal of African History.
He holds a Ph.D. in American Studies from Rutgers University, Newark, a MA in Liberal Studies from the Graduate Center, CUNY, and a BA in African American and African Studies and English from Fordham University.
